Stephen Ireland Relishing Man City Visit

Stephen Ireland Relishing Man City Visit
Gareth Ekin

New loan signing, Stephen Ireland says he is looking forward to the visit of his former club, Manchester City, next Sunday.

Speaking in an article in the Staffordshire Evening Sentinel, Ireland said

“Yes, I’m really looking forward to it, it’s kind of funny how it’s Man City in the first game. Hopefully, if I get any game time, I can make an impact.

Ireland arrived on a season long loan as the last Britannia Stadium bound transfer business concluded this summer and along with Marko Arnautovic, will have somewhat of a footballing point to prove. Famed for outlandish, Tim Westwood style car make-overs, Ireland was allegedly a virtual outcast in an Aston Villa side looking to shave the wage bill closer than a Gillette. Ireland, not known for his goals, will add creative flair and vision to the midfield and Ireland could be the lynchpin to link up defense and attack.

Those wondering how Hughes will fair with Ireland should remember that he is well versed with the player, managing him at Manchester City where Ireland won player of the season. Whether we see the player making his Stoke debut against his former club is all dependent on fitness levels with his last Premier League appearance being Wigan’s 3-0 demolition of Villa at Villa Park.
